Praying with Expectation: Psalm 5:3
Yesterday I read five chapters (in an effort to reach my #1 goal of the year). Since it's hard to keep even a small fragment of that chunk of reading in my little head, I asked God to help me meditate on just one verse or part of a verse.
Psalm 5:3 grabbed my attention:
"In the morning, O LORD, you hear my voice; in the morning I lay my requests before you and wait in expectation."
I rejoiced that I pray with expectation much more often than I used to. I used to lay my requests before Him, and once in a while would expect Him to answer. Almost like, "Okay, one outta five, Lord, will You answer me one outta five?" That was not childlike faith. Children have such a trust in their father (if he is a good and loving father, I mean) that Daddy wants to give his children what they are asking for, and if it's not good, He will tell them no--but He answers. Occasionally children nag, beg, whatever. Not that we have to nag God, but the degree to which we ask tells us something. (God already knows if we want something badly enough. Our bold, repeated requests tell us).
"In the morning, O LORD, you hear my voice; in the morning I lay my requests before you and wait in expectation."
What are you expecting from the Lord today? This year? Before you die?

I want to treasure Christ MORE than the good things He has given me in this life. I am aware of my thankfulness to HIM - but usually it is in light of my husband, children, home, friends, etc. rather than the simple GOODNESS of His very being.
That just challenges me to ask with faith for something I am too often rather hopeless about.
Thought provoking post...
I'm always challenged by David's prayers because he truly was a man after God's own heart...even though he was a man who sinned greatly throughout his life. So I'm challenged that when he lays his requests before the Lord, his desires are to seek after the Lord. God has brought things into my life that has really challenged what I feel like "I deserve." I don't deserve anything but through his promises, He has challenged me to be praying with confidence knowing that whether its next week or in heaven I will be restored...and I can expect that from the Lord.
I am expecting new mercy. Thank you for your insights, Zo. I love your 40 things! You go girl!
