"Generation" Redecoration

Back to this bathroom theme. Okay, folks, after presenting you with a melange of themes, you voted and I appreciate that very much. The outhouse theme certainly ranked up there. However, my hubby was not at all interested in having an outhouse in his castle. I thought it was whimsical, he thought it was hokey.

Okey dokey.

But at least we've got paint on now. It's a color called Cliff Rock by Behr. Picture black coffee after you've stirred a lot of hazelnut creamer into it. "It looks like the coffee you drink every morning," Paul said. I told him that's what I was going for. If you can't picture that, think "sepia"--you know, the tone of old, old pictures?

I have thought and thought about all of the potential themes, and have landed on one that is not on my original list. (Isn't it a woman's prerogative to change her mind?)

What the new theme? "Generations."

What I want to do is somehow use:

*COPIES of black and white photos of relatives on both sides of our families from muliple generations

*scripture about generations

*other things that fit the theme that I haven't thought of yet.

I need your help again. Please offer me scriptures, ideas, places to shop, accessories you're tossing (!), ideas for vignettes/displays, etc. I also must have a way to house a small number of magazines and books that won't take up much space. I also have a very large, frameless mirror that I'm keeping because it really does visually enlarge the little bathroom. The only thing wrong with it is that it is peeling in places along the edge. This peeling could be hidden with some kind of glued-on "frame." If any crafter/artsy person out there can think of a way to incorporate the Generations theme into a mirror frame, please tell me. I think I can do the hands-on stuff if given the ideas, knowledge, and supplies list.

Thanks for your input once again!

I have to say this...it seems a bit inappropriate to have this wonderful theme for a bathroom. Maybe going up your hallway, or in a family room it would make sense, but in a place where you are sitting for reasons other than getting educated about the family history... I don't know. Kinda weird. The out house idea is less tacky.

Well...I would like to follow this comment. I think the idea in itself is a good idea and the person above is correct, it would probably be "better" to have this somewhere like a family room, or going up the staircase, but you have chosen it for the bathroom which is sweet and personal. I say that you should go for it. I LOVE decorating and will offer up ANY help you may need!

Thanks, Anonymous. I am finally glad someone offers a real opinion that isn't what I expected.

Beth, I don't think it's tacky, either, but I can see where it could be awkward explaining your family history over the commode (if anyone really wanted to know). I just don't want boring old pale walls and floral wallpaper (I had it before and really liked it, but I like change every 5-6 years.I like a bathroom with personality. Why should it be "just" a place of business?
