Cleaning Tips

Danielle is sharing fashion tips. I'm appreciating those.

I'm wondering if you all could share cleaning tips as well.

What I'm looking for are cleaning tips to be left in my comment box. Each tip should be fewer than 25 words long. (You may, of course, leave more than one tip.) Tips can run the gamut from helpful products to ways to speed up the jobs. The one "rule" is that your tip has to work for you. That is, it must be from the "test kitchen" of your own home, not something you read on a clening guru's website or observed in your mom's routine. If you've adopted those as your own, that's fine, but I don't want links and "this is how my mom did it but I do it differently." I want your tried-and-true tips for efficient housecleaning.

This post may sound dull and uncreative, but I submit that this is where I live. One author calls it The Corner of Mundane and Grace. I consider tips to be part of the grace from living in community while tending to the mundane.

So, in 25 words or fewer, let's have tip #1.

Zo: I use a timer and spend 5 minutes in each room of my house before I begin my day. I carry a trash bag and clorox wipes. I start a load of laundry each morning after I wake up and that helps with the mounds of laundry that could pile up. I never have a laundry day, or a bathroom cleaning day, or just a cleaning day, I do little bits every day. This helps to not dread one certain day of the week, or helps to not take time from my family and such. I could talk about this all day....and decorating :-) You're not helping my sinful ways here!!!! Just kidding.

I'd like to do what Beth does when I'm home all the time. It makes sense. But Saturday's my cleaning/laundry day. I do it all and I love spending my Saturday that way, although it does make it hard when I have somewhere to go, because then the house is a wreck for the upcoming week, or I have to do it on Sunday, which I try never to do. I try to do laundry throughout the week, but it doesn't work that well with trying to get dinner done too.

It's amazing how fast the house can get dirty. Being an old house and not having AC the dirt just seems to blow in. The first thing I do on Saturdays is get the laundry going and the house clean before heading for the grocery store.
